Blessing of the Fleet Festival Celebrates Baileys Harbor’s Maritime History

Baileys Harbor will celebrate their long, rich maritime industry with The Blessing of the Fleet Festival on May 21-22. The festival begins with the Door County Scottie Rally’s Parade of Scots, followed by a traditional Blessing Ceremony over CB radio to all vessels wishing to receive it, regardless of denomination, vessel type, or homeport. After the blessing, there will be live music, arts and crafts, food and drinks, and activities throughout town. The local sport and commercial fishing boats will be open for touring at the town marina so festival goers can meet local captains and crew to ask questions and hear firsthand stories.

There will also be a rare ship model silent auction, the grand opening of the Baileys Harbor Range Lights, water rescue demonstrations, and Courtesy Safety Examinations by the Coast Guard.

If you’re looking for an educational experience, stop in at the Town Hall from 12:30 to 3 pm for a presentation on topics including Door County’s maritime history, fishing industry and legislation, safe water practices, and invasive species featuring local experts and authors.

Saturday night brings the community-wide culinary event “Lake to Table: A Taste of Baileys Harbor,” featuring a unique locally sourced whitefish entrée at various restaurants throughout town.

Sunday morning brings the Farm Market from 9 am to 2 pm showcasing local vendors. For more information visit BaileysHarbor.com or call 920.839.2366.
