Bold Palette-Knife Works Shine at Idea Gallery

Idea Gallery is showcasing the work of renowned Minnesota painter Jeff Boutin, who’s captured the essence of Cave Point’s rocky shoreline while painting en plein air during summer visits to Door County. His work also includes close-up compositions of Ice Age boulders and intimate beach scenes.

Boutin is an oil painter who uses palette knives to create richly colored landscapes. His bold use of color and expressive impasto technique are reminiscent of Vincent Van Gogh.

“Every artist should endeavor to create their own sense of style,” Boutin said. “Impression-expression defines mine: lots of color, heavy texture, pushing the boundaries of abstraction.”

Idea Gallery (ideagalleryart.com), 6551 Cty T in West Jacksonport, is open daily, 11 am – 5 pm.
