Book Club Spotlight

Club: Bookworms, established in the summer of 2004

Meetings: We meet during the season at the Horseshoe Bay Clubhouse or sometimes in a member’s home during the lunch hour and after that, we discuss the selected book.

What We’ve Read: This past summer we read Jane Eyre, The Husband’s Secret, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, The Light Between Oceans, The Invention of Wings, and Necessary Lies.

Review: Although all six of these books gave us much to discuss and with great enthusiasm, I do believe The Art of Hearing Heartbeats was especially well written and took us on a magical, rarely traveled journey and an emotional one as well. The story would appeal to most readers who enjoy a beautifully written story about the power of love expressed artfully well while drawing the reader into another world. Honestly, it surprised most of us that we got so involved in the wonderful story!

What’s Next: For the coming season, we will read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (we try to include a classic every year) and perhaps Huckleberry Finn as well. Other selections include Destiny of the Republic, History of the Rain, I Am Malala and All the Light We Cannot See. We will select a sixth book for the end of the season.
