Breathing Life into the Well-worn

At a certain point, one has to wonder if there could possibly be any new ways left to paint barns, farmland, sunsets, and cows. This is Door County, after all, where people come specifically to take their turn interpreting the same scenes we’ve seen a hundred times before. A century into the practice, it’s hard to expand the form.

But Bruce Bodden, whose work is on display at the Flying Pig Gallery and Greenspace in Algoma, has given the endeavor new life. Now, I don’t pretend to know anything about art, and have never been a guy to have the cool piece of art on the wall, but I’d hang one of these.
