Brussels Won’t Rush Dollar General Review

The Town of Brussels is currently reviewing a zoning application from the developer who wants to construct a 9,100-square-foot Dollar General store on County DK.

In a previous story, it was inadvertently reported that Brussels “had no official zoning ordinance” to guide the process. The town did adopt its own ordinance in 2002, but the reported official pathway for this particular project does not change. No official review by the plan commission or town board is required, nor is a public hearing or comment period part of the official process for this particular application.

However, JoAnn Neinas, town clerk and zoning administrator, said she will officially present the project to the Brussels Town Board of Supervisors once she has a complete zoning application.

Neinas said the soonest it could go to the board would be April 20, but she was doubtful it would be ready by then.

“We’re not going to rush this, definitely,” she said.
