‘Built for Battle’ Presentation at DCMM March 7

The Door County Maritime Museum (DCMM) and the Southern Door School District are collaborating to share songs, images and stories from the 1940s in a multimedia presentation related to the museum’s new exhibit, Built for Battle: Sturgeon Bay Ships in World War II. The presentation will take place March 7, 7 pm, at the Southern Door Community Auditorium.

The Built for Battle presentation will include film footage from the war, songs from 1940s V (for Victory) Discs, images from the exhibit, letters to and from those serving on the front, and news features about Door County’s role in the Allied war effort. The Southern Door High School Music Department will perform three songs from Loose Lips Sink Ships.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. Sturgeon Bay produced hundreds of vessels to supply the war effort, and Built for Battle highlights warships built in Door County and the experiences of their crews.
