Celebrate International Literacy Day with Literacy Door County

Sept. 8 of this year marks the 50th anniversary of International Literacy Day. The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization celebrates this day and is dedicated to improving rates of literacy through “inclusive and equitable quality education” and “lifelong learning opportunities” for people throughout the world.

Literacy Door County, Inc. (LDC) is a part of the worldwide network of organizations that support “literacy for all.” LDC would like the many generous and good-hearted Door County citizens, donors and visitors to note the following:

The Wild Tomato (Fish Creek and Sister Bay) has designated LDC as the recipient of their program to assist community organizations. For those of you not familiar with LDC, they provide educational services to adults who want to improve their English language skills. They also provide tutoring to improve opportunities through literacy for obtaining a GED, employment, driver’s license, citizenship or other personal goals of the student.

LDC encourages people to stop into The Wild Tomato in September. The Wild Tomato will donate a portion of the proceeds from their “Donation Creation” program to LDC. For more information call 920.743.8185 or email [email protected].
