Earlier this summer the Sturgeon Bay High School Cheerleaders gathered to work on a fundraising project they named “Steve the Sturgeon.” In conjunction with the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center’s (SBVC) Harvest Festival, the team adopted a small sturgeon and decorated it with historic photos taken from yearbooks from the 1920s-onward. Many local “celebrities” are featured in their high school glory on the fish. Since its completion, the sturgeon currently resides in front of the SBVC offices on Third Ave.
Steve the Sturgeon is one of 20 fish that will be auctioned off at the SBVC’s Harvest Festival on Sept. 20 at 5:30 pm in downtown Sturgeon Bay. The team will split the proceeds with the SBVC.
