Chess Makes Kids Smarter!

The Southern Door chess club would like to invite all k-12 students to participate in our first Southern Door WSCF (Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation) chess tournament on Saturday, March 8. The cost is $10 if participants register online before March 7 and $15 if registering at Southern Door between 8:00 and 8:45 am the day of the tournament. There will be first, second and third place trophies for school teams and individuals, as well as medals for everyone.

The Southern Door chess club promotes the philosophy that “Chess makes kids smarter” – not the other way around. Everyone can improve study skills, memory, pattern recognition, and focus skills while having fun playing a great game. Every student is welcome at this tournament.

For advance registration, go to http://www.wisconsinscholasticchess.org before midnight on Thursday, March 6 and click on the tournament registration link on the left. Registration fees will be paid at the tournament. Make checks payable to Southern Door High School. Then, please check-in from 8:00 to 8:45 am on March 8. Round 1 begins at 9:30 or before, if everyone is ready. Players not checked in by 8:45 will begin play in round 2. Please check in as early as possible. Lunch will be available for purchase on-site (pizza and fruit).

At least one designated adult supervisor must be present at all times during the tournament to oversee each school’s team or individual participants who are in grades k-8.
