Clark Lake Road Construction Begins

The Door County Highway Department was expected to begin a road-reconstruction project on or around Aug. 16 on County WD/Clark Lake Road between West Shore Drive and Highway 57 in Sevastopol.

The project includes road pulverization, fine grading and compaction, asphalting (three and a half inches of compacted, hot-mix asphalt), shouldering and centerline striping. Driveways and intersections were to be marked and cut first, with pulverizing beginning around Aug. 21.

The road will be open to traffic at all times. Grading and compaction is expected to take five to six days to complete, as is paving. No detour will be used, but paving will require lane closures and flaggers will control traffic. After a short cure period, the road will be shouldered and, eventually, centerline striped.

The expected completion date, without the centerline striping, is Sept. 15. As with any road-construction project, favorable weather controls the work pace. The Door County Highway Department apologized in advance for the dust and road conditions that may occur and advised motorists to obey all signage and use caution around equipment and crews.
