California-based singer/songwriter Claudia Russell brings her special brand of folk music to Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) on Aug. 28 for a special CD release concert. Russell is accompanied by her husband and musical partner Bruce Kaplan and Door County’s own Rich Higdon.
Russell and Kaplan are nationally touring artists. Russell won Best Musician in her home town’s East Bay Express Readers Poll, and Boston Radio station WUMB named her Best New Artist in 2001. During the past two decades, the duo have released five CDs that traverse a wide Americana landscape.
Russell is best known to Door County audiences as a cast member of AFT/Northern Sky shows. Russell has also performed Old Friends for the Milwaukee Rep and concerts of her own material at Door County venues.
On Lover’s Tree, the duo’s brand new fifth CD, delivers another eclectic folio of 14 original songs with help from Grammy-winning producer Laurie Lewis. The collection includes serious ballads, earnest musings and playful joy rides. See Russell and friends at 7:30 pm at TAP, located at 239 North Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. Tickets are $15 in advance on Eventbrite.com or $20 at the door. For more information visit thirdavenueplayhouse.com.
