Clipper Girls Tracksters Second at Ripon

The Sturgeon Bay and Sevastopol track and field teams opened their seasons Thursday at an indoor meet at Ripon College.

The Clipper girls finished second out of 13 teams with 87 points, behind only Berlin (178). The Pioneers (15.5) came in 12th.

Sturgeon Bay’s top finishers included Nida Zukauskaite winning both the 60-meter hurdles (10.3 seconds) and high jump (5 feet). Ella Tarkowski added a first-place finish in the 60 dash (8.07) and came in second in the 200 dash (28.71). 

Also finishing first for the Clippers was Cady Carlson in the 400 dash (1:05.42). Julia Kurek placed second in the 1600 run (5:50.27) and fourth in the 800 run (2:47.26). Jade Tomberlin finished runner-up in the high jump (4-10).

The third-place finishes for Sturgeon Bay’s girls included Tivi Andropolis in the 60 dash (8.43) and Tomberlin, Kurek, Ava Estes and Mercedes Hanley in the 4×800 relay (12:21.45).

Sevastopol’s top finish was recorded by Caitlyn Fellner, who placed fourth in the 200 dash (29.83). Fellner also joined Danica Werkheiser, Shaeffer Rass and Anna Gallardo-Ibarra to finish fifth in the 4×200 relay (2:08.42).

Clipper Boys Fifth

In the boys competition, the Clippers placed fifth out of 13 teams with 59 points, finishing behind Iola-Scandinavia (84), Randolph/Cambria-Friesland (75), Marshall (71.5) and Waupaca (69). The Pioneers (8) placed 12th.

Sturgeon Bay’s top finish was recorded by Xavier Jandrin, who won the pole vault (11-6). Chase Hasenjager placed second in both the 200 dash (24.36) and high jump (5-8). Braden Evers and Gannon Evers finished second and third, respectively, in the shot put (44-3 and 43-5). 

Hasenjager joined Kordell Anderson, Daniel Wienke and Zone Wienke to place fourth in the 4×200 relay (1:43.71).

Cedar Tomberlin finished fifth in the 60 hurdles (10.11).

Sevastopol’s top finish was recorded by Jairus Dadam, who placed third in the pole vault (11-0).

The Clippers’ next meet is scheduled outdoors for April 2 at Algoma, while the Pioneers have an outdoor meet set for April 2 at Peshtigo.
