Clippers Cruise Past Pioneers in Boys Basketball

Sturgeon Bay’s boys basketball team found multiple scoring opportunities on the perimeter and also made 24 out of 29 free throws Friday when the Clippers won their Packerland Conference contest at Sevastopol, 73-36.

Calvin Richard led three Sturgeon Bay players in double figures with a game-high 24 points, which included four three-pointers. Jackson Starr added 17 points, with Danny Lodl scoring 16 more and making a pair of three-pointers.

The Pioneers, who trailed 45-17 at halftime, were led by Zaul Valdivia with 13 points, which included the team’s only basket behind the arc. Sevastopol shot 11-17 from the charity stripe.

The Clippers, who improved to 2-1 in the Packerland and 3-1 overall, host a non-conference game Tuesday against Two Rivers before hosting their next league game Thursday against Southern Door.

The Pioneers (0-2, 1-5) return to action Thursday with a conference game Thursday at Algoma.
