Pioneers Sink Clippers in Girls Basketball

Sevastopol’s girls basketball team remained undefeated on the season Thursday when the Pioneers won their Packerland Conference game at Sturgeon Bay, 55-25.

The Clippers were able to break through Sevastopol’s full-court press, but committed multiple turnovers in the front court while tallying only three field goals in the first half when they trailed the Pioneers, 31-8.

Sevastopol had three players score in double figures led by Naomi Rikkola with 25 points. Kayla Ranly added 13 points, with Katie Spude scoring 11 more.

Dasha Yeltysheva led Sturgeon Bay with seven points, followed by Regan Kasten with six points and Tori Alger with five points.

The Pioneers improved their season record to 2-0 in the conference and 5-0 overall going into Tuesday’s league game at home against Algoma.

The Clippers (1-2, 2-3) play a non-conference game Friday at Clintonville before Tuesday’s conference contest at Southern Door.
