A cargo van and propane delivery truck collision with spillage reported at 11:46 am today south of Carlsville caused the closure of state Highway 42 for at least four hours.
Emergency responders – including Egg Harbor firefighters, the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Door County EMS and Door County Emergency Management – responded to the crash, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources personnel also came to the scene.
The county highway department, following Wisconsin Department of Transportation procedures, set up a detour on County Road I from Hwy 42 to County Road T to state Highway 57, said chief deputy Pat McCarty. Much of the traffic used a shorter detour onto County I to Mathey Road.
Though reports from the scene reported an overwhelming propane smell, McCarty said he did not know as of 12:15 pm whether there were any evacuations or whether there was a radius where people could be affected.
Heavy-duty tow trucks arrived at the scene around 1 pm, but a detour still was in place at 3:45.
