In the By the Numbers column that appeared in the Oct. 31 edition of the Pulse, the column incorrectly stated that two presidential swearings-in were held outside of Washington D.C. That is incorrect, as reader Andy Hall of Sturgeon Bay pointed out. The column should have said that two swearings-in took place outside of Washington D.C. due to war. In fact, seven other swearings-in took place outside of Washington D.C., Mr. Hall informs us.
1789 – George Washington, took the oath in Federal Hall in NYC
1793 – George Washington, took the oath in Congress Hall Philadelphia
1797 – John Adams, took the oath in Congress Hall Philadelphia
1881 – Chester A Arthur, took the oath at his private residence in NYC
1901 – Teddy Roosevelt, took the oath at a residence in Buffalo
1923 – Calvin Coolidge, took the oath at his dad’s house in Plymouth, VT
1963 – Lyndon Johnson, took the oath at Love Field in Dallas
