DCA Announces 2013 Lineup

Taj Mahal is slated to play July 13 at DCA.

Door Community Auditorium (DCA) has finalized its 2013 season schedule, and it’s one of the venue’s most diverse and ambitious lineups to date. DCA will present more than twenty concerts this summer and fall with music that runs the gamut from gritty folk-rock to Cape Breton fiddle music to psychedelic soul.

The season begins with a June 14 performance by Memphis fast-picker Eric Lewis, joined by a plethora of Tennessee’s most accomplished swing, bluegrass, and country musicians. From there, DCA’s jam-packed season takes off, beginning with performances by South African a cappella legends Ladysmith Black Mambazo (June 21), old-time string band The Carolina Chocolate Drops (June 23), and country/western swing super-group The Time Jumpers, featuring Vince Gill, Dawn and Kenny Sears, and “Ranger Doug” Green (June 28).

July brings funk/soul sensations The Family Stone (July 5), cutting-edge hard-folk duo Shovels & Rope (July 8), and American blues icon Taj Mahal (July 13); as well as gritty troubadour James McMurtry (July 15), genre-bending sister band Rising Appalachia (July 19) and the Official Blues Brothers Revue tribute show (July 25).

Indigo Girls return to the DCA stage on Sept. 10.

August begins with a doubleheader show by folk-rock powerhouses John Hiatt and Steve Earle (August 2), then continues with smoky Boston songwriter Eilen Jewell (August 4) and acclaimed song interpreter Kathy Mattea (August 11). The fall will see the return of DCA favorites and Grammy-winning music icons Indigo Girls (September 10), as well as a joint show by neo-traditional bands Elephant Revival and Greensky Bluegrass (September 15). Rounding out the season will be “Masters of the Fiddle” Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy (November 10), and perennial favorite A Lettermen Christmas (November 30).

Tickets go on sale to the general public May 13 at 12 pm with ticket pre-sales for DCA VIPs on May 6 at 12 pm.

Sponsors are still needed for many of this season’s shows. Sponsors have the opportunity to meet performers backstage after the show. DCA is also seeking volunteers for many of the season’s performances.
