Dear Door County, It’s Been a While

It’s been a while since I crossed your border of Cherryland and frankly, it’s been a while since I tasted their mystic tartness. It’s been a while since Culvers introduced me to the intersecting highways and it’s been a while since Egg Harbor introduced me to Fish Creek and Ephraim.

Most importantly, it’s been a while since I graced any of your beautiful fairways. It’s been nine months since I last teed it up on the peninsula and more than seven months since the last edition of the Peninsula Pulse Golf Page.

Alas, school is out for summer. Thank goodness. Finally, my second passion is back in session. Golf is back in Door County and the Golf Page is back in the Pulse.

I’ll be continuing my management of the Golf Page this summer with hopes to expand upon my rookie debut last summer.

I want to get a further sense of golf in Door County; beyond just the weekly league scores and whatever tricks of the trade I’ve collected in my eight years around the game.

Profiling more golfers is a goal that sits high on my list. There is not an entity more important to golf in Door County than the golfers themselves. Every few weeks, the Golf Page serves as an outlet to show Door County exactly who is swinging a sweet stick.

And if they’re not swinging a sweet stick, I’d love to help them with a tip or two on getting closer to the hole. Unfortunately, a 15-handicap like myself is miles from giving satisfactory golf advice. However, we’re not out of luck.

I’ve built a healthy rapport with the various golf pros from around the peninsula – essentially our golf maestros. They’ll be offering tips throughout the summer, all with the intent to help us limit the duffs and shanks.

However, these goals are contingent on some help from Golf Page readers. Know a golfer worthy of being profiled? Want a local pro to detail what it takes for that ball to spin backward nearer the cup? Let me know. The same thing goes for golf’s magical moments.

If you are skilled or lucky enough to find a hole-in-one this summer, let us know about it. Call it in (920.839.2121), email it in ([email protected]); whatever you have to do. Any ace is a monumental occasional in a golfer’s career.

Since I have yet to be lucky enough for a hole-in-one to stroll my way, I would love to live vicariously through the triumphs of golfers all over the county. At the very least, I want to hear about it. Hopefully the rest of Door County wants to as well.
