Defibrillator Initiative Amps Up Summer Fundraising

The first week in June is National CPR and AED Awareness Week and a milestone for the Door County Fire Chiefs Association’s Defibs4DoorCounty fundraising campaign as it enters the home stretch toward its goal of purchasing 80 new automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) for the county.

An anonymous $75,000 donation and matching challenge from a local donor were the catalysts for the campaign, which was announced in February and runs through Labor Day. So far, the campaign has raised $42,000, putting it more than halfway to the $75,000 match goal.

Most AEDs purchased with the funds raised will go to first responders, including law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS and DNR agents. The first AEDs donated by the campaign were delivered in March to the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Sturgeon Bay Police Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Additional AEDs have been ordered to fulfill first-responder requests throughout the county.

Help meet the Defibs4DoorCounty fundraising challenge by making donations online at Defibs4DoorCounty.org or in person at local North Shore Bank and Nicolet National Bank branches and at any Door County fire station. Make checks payable to “Defibs4DoorCounty.” A concert by Tent Show Troubadours to benefit the campaign is set for June 12 at Sister Bay’s Waterfront Park.
