Dig-In at the Algoma Garden Show

Want to hone your gardening, and birding skills? The fifth annual Dig-In Algoma Garden Show is set for May 3, 8 am to 3 pm, at the Algoma Community Center, 640 Lake Street.

The show will feature a variety of area vendors, businesses and organizations showcasing lawn and garden related products and services, along with hourly presentations on gardening and birding. The show will again feature a birding focus in support of Algoma’s Bird City Wisconsin designation, and May 3rd being International Migratory Bird Day.

Here are a few of the programs at the Garden Show:

• Mary & Dale Goodner – Birding 101, 9 am. Learn a few tricks for telling one bird from another using sound as well as sight.

• Bob Kuhn – Photographing Our Feathered Friends: Bird Photography in and around Algoma, 10 am.

• Mariette Nowak – Birdscaping in the Midwest: Gardening with Native Plants to Attract Birds, 11 am. Author of Birdscaping in the Midwest, Nowak will speak about ways to increase the variety of birds in your yard by growing native plants that provide food and habitat. A book signing will follow the presentation.

• Mary Goodner – Doug Tallamy Live video presentation of Make Your Landscape Bird Friendly, 1 pm. Goodner will facilitate the the DVD screening by Entomologist Dr. Tallamy who explains the vital links between plants and wildlife, as well as the importance of sustainable landscapes.

Admission is free and food and beverage is available throughout the day in support of the Kewaunee County 4-H Club.
