DNR to Meet With Door County Anglers

Representatives with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources have set a date to meet with interested parties in Northern Door about the 2014 Chinook salmon stocking strategy. The meeting is set for 6 pm on Feb. 6 at the Weborg net shed (next to the service garage) in Gills Rock. The DNR announced in December that Northern Door would be allocated 30,000 fish. Charter Captain Don Grasse of King Fisher Charters has been researching net pens to protect the stocked Chinook fingerlings until they are ready to be released into the lake, so there will also be discussion of how to pay for the net pens, fish food and monitoring equipment.

Coffee with a Cop, a program of the Door County Sheriff’s Department, will take place Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 8 to 10 am at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant, Sister Bay. There are no agendas or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know local law enforcement officers.

The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive on Jan. 31 from noon to 4 pm at the YMCA Door County in Fish Creek. You can make an appointment by calling 800.RED.CROSS (800.733.2767) or visit redcrossblood.org for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
