Door County Celebrates Safe Boating Week

To celebrate Safe Boating Week, the Algoma/Sturgeon Bay Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla will have displays set up, sharing safe boating information, and provide free vessel safety inspections from 10 am – 2 pm at the Yacht Works Marina in Sister Bay on May 28 and May 29. “Coastie,” the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s radio-controlled boat will entertain and teach young boaters about safe boating and life jackets.

With the approaching boating season, the Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla will also be hosting a Boating Safety Course in Sister Bay on June 4. The course will cover various topics including safe boat handling including personal watercraft (PWC), paddling sports, regulations and aids to navigation. Anyone born after January 1, 1989 is required to take a safe boating course to legally operate a motorboat including PWCs.
