Door County Film Earns MLC Awards

During the June 24 MLC Awards held in Green Bay, the independent feature film Confessions of a Sailor, filmed primarily in Door County, earned two accolades: Strong Filmmaking Talent in a Film and Outstanding Supporting Role Performance for John A. Schakel’s depiction of William “Old Tobe” Tobit.

Set against the backdrop of Door County, the film follows writer Michael Connolly as he ventures out to write his career-making magazine series. He befriends a local mariner, “Old Tobe,” who tells Connolly the story of the 1958 wreck of the Carl D. Bradley. Looming deadlines, relationship struggles and real-life events surrounding the Bradley disaster all force Connolly to wonder why bad things happen to good people.

The film co-stars local actor Andrew Delaurelle and Los Angeles–based actress Jennifer Cadena, best known for playing Michelle on Days of Our Lives. There are also cameo appearances by former WFRV chief meteorologist Tom Mahoney, singer/songwriter Carl “Bearfoot” Behrend and actor Tony Shaloub.Learn about the MLC Awards at mlcawards.com.
