Door County Peninsula Players Host Presentation and Post-Show Chat

Greg Vinkler portrays the famed detective and James Leaming his faithful ally Doctor Watson in the Peninsula Players’ production of “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure,” by Steven Dietz.

Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary tale of Sherlock Holmes has been adapted into radio dramas, major motion pictures and television dramas. The character is making his Door County debut in the Peninsula Players’ production of Steven Dietz’s Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, which runs through October 19 and is based on the original 1899 play by William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle.

Though Doyle gave Holmes life on the printed page, it was William Gillette’s portrayal of Holmes that cemented the iconic image, identifiable by his silhouette: cape, deerstalker, and calabash pipe.

The Peninsula Players will be host a special presentation by William Gillette biographer Henry Zecher on October 4 at 2:30 pm. Zecher will present slides and material from his soon-to-be-released book on Gillette. The event is free of charge and open to the public, but reservations are required.

There will also be a post-show chat after the October 7 performance. Artistic director Greg Vinkler, who plays Holmes, will be available to answer questions.

Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure continues Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 7 pm with a matinee performance at 4 pm, Sunday October 19. Ticket prices are $32.25 and $29. For more information or to reserve tickets, call 920.868.3287 or visit http://www.peninsulaplayers.com.
