Door County Poets Receive Honorable Mentions in Statewide Poetry Contest

Wisconsin People & Ideas, the quarterly magazine of the Wisconsin Academy, announced the 2019 winners of its statewide fiction and poetry contests. 

Fiction winners were Exile by Steve Fox, first place; Spirit Box by Nikki Kallio, second place; and Mirror Box by Michael Hopkins, third place. Poetry winners were “Greyhound” by Robert Russell, first place; “Morning’s Detour” by Mary Wehner, second place; and “Nineteen Forty-Five” by Jeri McCormick, third place.

Door County poets Tom Davis, for his poem “Gaia’s Song,” and Estella Lauter, for her poem “Gandhi Spinning, India, 1946,” received honorable mentions in the poetry contest.

Winners receive awards of $500 to $100 and publication in Wisconsin People & Ideas, and they will appear at a 2019 Wisconsin Book Festival reading.
