Door County Reads Announces 2014 Read

In a continuation of the popular Door County Reads program, the county will once again be encouraged by the Door County Library to read, think about, share and discuss the same book, beginning in January. The chosen book for 2014 is The Memory of Old Jack by Wendell Berry, an American novelist, poet, environmental activist, cultural critic, and farmer.

The novel takes place on a fall day in 1952, when a retired farmer named Jack Beechum relives many facets of his long life in a rural Kentucky river town.

Door County Reads programming begins Jan. 20 and continues through Feb. 8 throughout the county. During these three weeks there will be speakers; book discussions; theatrical presentations by Peninsula Players and Isadoora Theatre Company; music; film showings; and a Family Homestead Fair.

Courtesy of the Friends of Door County Libraries, a limited number of free copies of The Memory of Old Jack will be available at each Door County library beginning Jan. 2. Books can also be requested via the online library catalog, “InfoSoup.org”
