Door County Student Advances in Poster Contest

Elizabeth Bautista has advanced to the state level of the Conservation Awareness poster contest in the Grades 7-9 Division. She was one of four Door County students who advanced Jan. 27 to the Lake Michigan Area level.

Elayna Hatch, in the Grades 2-3 Division; Violet Boyarski, Grades 4-6; and Bethanie Stackhouse, Grades 10-12, joined Bautista at the regional competition, which comprises Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Shawano and Sheboygan counties.  Boyarski received third place, and Stackhouse earned second place at the regional. Bautista earned first place and went on to the state contest, held March 1-3.

The Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department held the local contest in January through the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association.

“We are so proud of each student who took the time to create such wonderful posters, and [we send] a special thank-you to all of the teachers and parents who encouraged their students to enter this contest,” read a statement from the department.

Culver’s and the Door County Maritime Museum donated prizes for the students who participated.
