Door County Triathlon – Half Iron Results

In sweltering heat that blanketed the county all day, 906 participants survived the Half Iron distance of the Door County Triathlon yesterday, and two Madison residents came out on top.

Leading the way in the men’s division was Madison resident Mark Harms, fittingly wearing bib number 1, who finished with a time of 4 hours, 13 minutes and 41 seconds. Coming in second was Mike Lavery, also of Madison, with a time of 4 hours, 23 minutes and 52 seconds. Lavery was closely followed by Cameron Knuth, who completed the race in 4 hours, 25 minutes and 25 seconds.

In the women’s division, Madison resident Emily Farrell came out on top, with a time of 4 hours, 51 minutes and 48 seconds. Farrell was followed by Chicago resident Emma Briggs, who finished in 4 hours, 55 minutes and 51 seconds. Coming in third was Erin Siewert of Baraboo, Wi., with a time of 4 hours, 58 minutes and 34 seconds.

Among the men’s relay teams, the trio of Madison resident Casey Lamers, Cottage Grove, Wi. resident Gordy Paulson, and Middleton, Wi. resident Derek Scheer finished first by far with a time of 4 hours, 32 minutes and 57 seconds. Coming in a distant second was the Madison-based team of Craig Parsons and James Ferguson, with a time of 5 hours, 27 minutes and 53 seconds. The gap between second and third, however, was much closer, as the Franklin, Wi. team of Nathan, Terry and Steven Fons finished in 5 hours, 29 minutes and 5 seconds.

The women’s relay division was headed up by the team of Elkhart Lake, WI resident Karen Puchalski, Plymouth, Wi. resident Mary Bolich, and Beaver Dam, Wi. resident Jodi Gerth, with a team of 5 hours, 4 minutes and 18 seconds. The second-place finishers were De Pere resident Patricia Costella and Oconto Falls residents Mary Catterton and Lori Witt, with a time of 5 hours, 32 minutes and 34 seconds. The third-place team, Karen Olson of Little Suamico, Wi and De Pere residents Laurie Walters and Catrina Trindle, finished six minutes later with a time of 5 hours, 38 minutes and 22 seconds.

Finally, among the mixed relay teams, the first-place team of Itasca, Il. resident Steve Ellenbecker and Appleton residents Cheri Ellenbecker and Ellen Peterson finished in 4 hours, 47 minutes and 34 seconds. In second place were Green Bay residents Brittany and Stuart Kolb, with a time of 4 hours, 54 minutes and 40 seconds. And finishing two minutes later were Kewaunee residents Scott Goehner, Dave Jesse and Tracy Valenta, with a time of 4 hours, 56 minutes and 53 seconds. Valenta also placed second in the women’s division of the sprint distance race on Saturday.
