Door County UUF Hosts Reading of “The Cemetery Club

Under the direction of Dr. Arthur “Doc” Hopper, The Cemetery Club will be performed as a reading on Feb. 18 at 7 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Ephraim and on Feb. 20 at 2 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Juddville. Both performances are free and open to the public. The ensemble cast will include Dee Hopper, Pamela Johnson, Lynn Olson, Patti Podgers, and Michael Brecke.

The Cemetery Club tells the story of three Jewish women who visit their husband’s grave each month, forming a club based on their common widowhood. With humor, poignancy, spirit, and spunk, the women share the intimacies of marriage and fears of being alone.

Retired Chairman of Theatre and Dance at UW-Stevens Point, Hopper “acted” in a reading of I Never Sang for My Father at the UU last year.

“It was so well received that I wanted to do another reading, something not so serious, yet a story that also spoke to an audience,” said Hopper. “I had recently read The Cemetery Club and thought it would be the perfect vehicle for what I wanted to do.”
