Door Kinetic Arts Festival Expands

The Door Kinetic Arts Festival (DKAF) will return to Björklunden in Baileys Harbor Sept. 18-22 for its seventh season. The festival will feature cocktails, short films and performances by a mix of local and nationally known artists in dance, theater and music, including internationally renowned composer Ricky Ian Gordon.

Gordon’s songs have been performed and recorded by singers such as Renee Fleming, Judy Collins, Kelli O’Hara, Audra MacDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, Andrea Marcovicci and Betty Buckley. His acclaimed musical theater and opera triumphs include The Grapes of Wrath and Intimate Apparel (with Lynn Nottage). Gordon will also develop new work to be presented Sept. 21.

Multidisciplinary offerings will include works by Company to X For and film submissions that have come from 25 countries. Playwright Brian James Polak will return to develop a new play, and Robert Simonson – who writes about cocktails and bars, primarily for the New York Times – will prepare special cocktails each night. The DKAF Koffeehouse – offering music, dancing, cocktails and brief acts performed by the resident company – is set for Sept. 20.

Festival passes ($45) and individual-night tickets ($15) will be available in late August at doorkinetic.com and at the door. More details will be posted during the coming weeks.
