Enjoy Soup! Feb. 4 at PenArt

More than 500 bowls are created by Door County children and adults for PenArt’s Soup! All proceeds from the event benefit PenArt’s Outreach Programs and Habitat for Humanity of Door County. Submitted.

Peninsula School of Art (PenArt) invites the public to join in the 11th annual SOUP! event on Feb. 4, 11 am – 3 pm. Attendees may purchase handcrafted bowls for $15 and then sit down to a complimentary hot soup-and-bread buffet. Proceeds from the sale of the dishwasher-, microwave- and oven-safe bowls will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Door County and Peninsula School of Art’s free Children’s Outreach programs.

SOUP! is a community-wide effort, with more than 500 school children and adults creating and decorating bowls with original designs and brightly-colored glazes. Door County Potters Guild members will also contribute “celebrity” bowls and drinking vessels for sale.

Food for SOUP! is donated by both Door County restaurants and individuals. A special section on the event’s soup line caters to children’s favorites like homemade chicken noodle.

According to PenArt Executive Director, Cathy Hoke, SOUP! is a testament to the spirit of giving throughout Door County.

“For eleven years now, community members of all ages have come together to create over 6,000 bowls, our local restaurants have donated nearly 20,000 cups of soup, which has been served by 800 volunteers, and raising over $70,000 for PenArt and our partner organizations. We couldn’t have imagine how this event would be embraced by the community when we started.”
