Ephraim Men’s Club Awards Nine Scholarships

Nine 2018 graduates of Gibraltar High School have won college scholarships from the Ephraim Men’s Club.

The club’s annual breakfast to raise scholarship money for 2019’s Gibraltar graduates is Aug. 4. It runs from 7:30 – 11 am at the Ephraim Village Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. Diners can win door prizes.

This year’s awardees and their college choices are: Sofia Jauregui (Marquette or St. Norbert), Sarah Kifer (Boston University), Hanna Michalsen (St. Norbert), Anika Peterson (UW-Madison), valedictorian Mackenzie Straub (UW-Madison), Hunter Syers (UW-LaCrosse), Kaylee Weddig (UW-Madison), Kelsey Weddig (University of Minnesota), and Mercedes Zayac (Technical College, Appleton).

“Thanks to the members’ amazing efforts and resultant record-breaking success, the Scholarship Committee was able to increase the total of this year’s scholarship awards by 50 percent over what we gave last year,” said Club President Dick Volkmann. The number of awardees also increased from eight to nine.

In the past five decades the men’s club has raised roughly $220,000 for scholarships. Proceeds come from ticket sales and contributions from businesses, Ephraim residents, and men’s club members.
