Extensive Collection

Jewelry by Angela Lensch.

Ten new and returning wearable artists will gather at the Sister Bay Village Hall on Aug. 23 and 24 for the second installment of the Door County Wearable Art Show hosted by Sue Donohoo of Soo Hoo Artwear in Baileys Harbor. The indoor boutique focusing on contemporary, handcrafted women’s clothing, accessories and jewelry will present an extensive selection of styles, sizes and prices.

Lori Monson is one of the artists making her Door County debut. An avid hiker, she integrates the colors and textures she encounters into hand painted silk garments. Just in time for the cooler weather, Rosemarie Mellenberger has a complete line of geometric knitwear incorporating multiple colors in her sweaters and hats. Amy Taylor will debut her 14K and 18K gold and sterling jewelry constructed of unique hinge work and juxtaposed gemstones. Marcy Farber of Cousins Walk Gallery in Ellison Bay has expanded her collection of folk art garments to include a line of collage jewelry.

Textured fabrics, unique buttons and impeccable detailing are hallmarks of Ann Gainey’s jackets, being shown in the county for the first time. Egg Harbor gallery owner Angela Lensch continues to evolve her matrices of woven precious metal, gemstones and pearls into her signature jewelry. Award winning leather artist, Ilze Heider uses her Latvian heritage to inspire hand painted designs based on traditional textile designs for her handbags and accessories. Pat Rued begins her jackets, tops and scarves with white silk or cotton. After shibori dyeing, painting and stamping, she hand tailors each piece for a custom fit. Sue Donohoo of Soo Hoo Artwear, combines new and recycled textiles for an ever-changing array of jackets, tunics scarves and shawls.

The Door County Wearable Art Show is open Aug. 23 from 9 am to 5 pm and Aug. 24 from 10 am to 5 pm inside the Sister Bay Village Hall, Waterfront Park, 10693 N. Bay Shore Drive (Wisconsin 42).
