• Arthur Braun, president of the Braun Investment Group, said bids for tearing down the Walkway Shops in Sister Bay are being reviewed. The group purchased the property in 2005 with plans to redevelop it into an upscale shopping complex but the economic slump of 2007 halted those plans.

Braun said the buildings, which have been empty for several years, are deteriorating, and it will be easier to sell the property if it’s cleared than with the buildings in place.

“We hate to tear down the Beanie’s building too, but it has deteriorated too far to rent,” Braun said. Demolition work will be completed by April 15, then the property will be seeded with grass.

Braun wasn’t sure what the asking price for the two-acre property will be once the buildings are gone.

“We want the community to be informed about what’s happening with the property, and we want it to look good for those who are doing business in Sister Bay,” Braun said. “We hope to leave parking there for the village to use as needed.”
