Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands Honor Coast Guard

Retired Coast Guard members who served at Plum Island were the honored guests of the Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands (FOPPI) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on July 28 during a picnic held near the island’s historic Life-Saving Station.

The picnic helped to raise about $4,000 toward the cost of restoring the Life-Saving Station’s front porch. Another $6,000 is needed to shore up this 1895 National Register of Historic Places building. Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to the Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands, P.O. Box 61, Washington Island.
