Frogs and Feathered Friends at the Ridges Sanctuary

Frogs wake up from their winter hibernation in a feisty mood. It’s mating season and the Ridges Sanctuary’s wetlands are filled with peeping, trilling and quacking as the males seek out their little green sweethearts. Join naturalists for a Frog Walk on the noisy evening trails at Ridges on April 13 and 14. Hikers will learn about the watery lifestyle of frogs and learn to identify some of their songs.

Walks begin at 6 pm at The Ridges Marshall Cabin, 8288 Highway Q in Baileys Harbor. The cost is $15 per family for members and $20 per family for the general public. Pre-registration is required; call 920.839.2802 or 920.868.3660. This program is supported in part by the Door County Community Foundation Green Fund.

The public is also welcome to attend the April Early Birders meeting on April 14 at 10 am. Attendees will learn about feeding birds from the experts at Door County’s own Havegard Bird Feed outlet. Following the meeting, participants will head to Gardner Marsh to look for some early birds. Havegard’s is located at 6757 Highway 42/57, south of Sturgeon Bay. The cost is $15 per family for members and $20 per family for the general public. Call 920.839.2802 for more information.

The Frog Walks and Early Birders programs are part of the “No Family Left Inside” series offered by the Northern Door Y, the McArdle Library and The Ridges Sanctuary.
