Gibraltar Girls Awarded Top Seed in Division 5

For the first time in school history, the Gibraltar High School girls basketball team is the No. 1 seed in a regional basketball tournament.

“I’m incredibly proud of how the girls have performed this year,” Coach Josh Kropuenske said. “The No. 1 seed is just a credit to their work ethic and desire to get better. I couldn’t be more pleased with this team.”

Gibraltar, top seed in Division 5 Region 4, will host the winner of No. 8 Oakfield and No. 9 Heritage Christian on Feb. 22 at 7 pm. With a win, the Vikings would host the regional final the following night.

“We are confident going into the postseason but know that there is still a lot of work needed in the upcoming weeks,” Gibraltar leading scorer Payton Pluff said. “I am so excited to see where the playoffs take us and know that we have a chance to make something big happen.”

In other regional pairings, No. 11 seed Sevastopol will travel to St. Mary’s Springs on Feb. 19 in a Division 4 Region 4 matchup, and Southern Door, No. 5 seed in Division 3 Region 2, will host No. 12 Sturgeon Bay that night as well. Both games will begin at 7 pm.

The Eagles defeated the Clippers twice during the regular season, winning 68-23 on Dec. 20 and 62-46 on Feb. 8.
