Girls Hoops Seasons End for 3 County Schools

Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, and Gibraltar saw their girls basketball seasons come to a close in the first round of the WIAA tournament Tuesday night. 

In Division 4, No. 8-seeded Southern Door lost at home to No. 9-seeded Algoma, 48-34. Allianna Dufek led the Eagles with 15 points. Southern Door – which had defeated the Wolves twice during Packerland Conference play – ended the season 14-11 overall.

Sturgeon Bay (2-22) fell in Division 3 when the No. 11-seeded Clippers lost at No. 6-seeded Clintonville, 65-42.

Gibraltar (4-21) was a No. 13 seed in Division 5 and lost at No. 4-seeded Niagara, 48-32.

The only Door County girls basketball team remaining in the postseason, Sevastopol (23-1), received a No. 2 seed and an opening-round bye in Division 5. The Pioneers host a regional semifinal Friday against No. 7-seeded Suring. The winner plays Saturday for the regional title.
