Golfing Royalty

Thirty-seven teams scattered the front nine at Idlewild Golf Course for the four-person scramble format.

“In every woman…there is a Queen.”

This quote headlined the fifth annual Queen for a Day golf event, proving that 148 queens teed it up Monday, June 25 at Idlewild Golf Course.

Thirty-seven teams scattered the front nine at Idlewild in a nine hole, four-person scramble format, with much more than just golf going on.

In addition to the driving, chipping, and putting, there was a luncheon, guest speaker, bike raffle, wine sampling, silent auction, small golf contests, and a small dinner. With the proceeds raised being split between the, the event most importantly benefitted a good cause.

Oncologist, Dr. Jerry Winkler gave a thrilling speech to kick off the afternoon, helping remind all of the cause at hand.

“In every woman…there is a Queen” was the creed that headlined the June 25 outing at Idlewild, where 148 queens teed it up.

Though the event saw many queens attend – some claiming reign over the likes of Madison, Milwaukee, or Chicago – one Queen was selected as the Queen of the Day. Jenny Hentges was that lucky lady, as her name was chosen out of a hat that included all participants.

Hentges donned a crown and purple robe in a less-than-royal ceremony, with the clause that she must return next year to crown her succeeding queen.

One of the major event facilitators, Bob Spude, considered the event “very successful,” noting that there were almost too many sponsors to count. In the end, a great event helped cancer meet another opponent: golfing royalty.
