Gorham’s Three-pointer Lifts Vikings to Victory

A three-pointer from Mikala Gorham as time ran out Thursday lifted the Gibraltar girls basketball team to a 39-37 Packerland Conference victory at Peshtigo.

“I am glad to have escaped Peshtigo with a win,” said Vikings head coach Evan DeBroux. “We did not deserve to win because we failed to execute on the offensive end – missed layups, missed free throws and a lack of ball toughness that was concerning.”

Gibraltar, which trailed 18-10 at halftime, had two players end up scoring in double figures. Andie Schar recorded a game-high 19 points, with Gorham adding 16 points.

“We did not have a lead until the last minute, and we should have been able to put the game away, but did not,” DeBroux said “I was worried, especially in the second half, as every time we pulled the game back, we would make a mistake that kept the game at a distance.”

The Vikings, who improved to 4-3 in the Packerland Conference and 6-5 overall, return to action Monday with a conference game at Algoma.
