Grant Awarded to Restore Hanson House

The Door County Community Foundation recently awarded the Door County Historical Society grants from the Historic Preservation Fund and the Cliff & Clara Herlache Heritage Foundation Fund to support the Hanson House Restoration project. The Hanson House is a log home that was built about 1856 using Scandinavian construction techniques. The Society is in the process of restoring it to how it would’ve looked between 1875-1885. Restoration experts have determined that there are only three similar examples of this type of construction that have been uncovered in the entire United States.
