Hal Prize Screening Judges

For the 2022 contest, the Hal Prize added a group of local screening judges: local poets and authors who volunteer their time to read through submissions that, depending on the category, can number from 50 to more than 200 total.

These judges are (back, from left) Charlie Schudson (nonfiction), Peter Sherrill (poetry), Carrie Sherrill (poetry), Jan Wrede (nonfiction), Judy Ann Ritter (nonfiction), Marggie Moertl (fiction); (seated, from left) Jami Hanreddy (poetry) and Thomas Davis (fiction).

Their contributions have provided an important step in the growth of our contest and have added valuable influence and perspective.
