Healing, Hikes and Frogs at Crossroads

Crossroads at Big Creek will welcome the Habitat Healers again on Aug. 13, 9:30-11:30 am, when volunteers of all ages are invited to help with land-restoration efforts. Instruction, equipment, gloves, cookies and lemonade will be provided. Wear clothing and footwear that can get dirty and wet.

Join interpretive naturalist Coggin Heeringa on Aug. 14, 2 pm, for a gentle hike at Ida Bay. Meet at the parking lot at the intersection of Canal Road and Buffalo Ridge Trail.

Then return Aug. 15, 10 am, to join Heeringa for a short presentation about frogs and a capture-and-release frog hunt.

During an interactive, family-friendly nature program Aug. 16, 10 am, Heeringa will explore (but not answer!) the question, Are we alone?

Then get hands-on during an Aug. 17, 10 am, program that explores the relationship between a bird’s bill and the food it eats.

What is nature journaling, and how do you start? Join program director Corey Batson on Aug. 18, 6:30 pm, to explore how to use art, writing and your own senses to understand the landscape around you. Take your creativity, and Crossroads will provide the rest during this roughly hour-long program. Crossroads (crossroadsatbigcreek.org) is located at 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay.
