Hermke Timm Named 2016 DCAL Master Artist

The 30th anniversary Door County Art League (DCAL) Annual Showcase and Juried Awards, Jammin’ with the Artists, is open to the public at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor until Sept. 10, open 11 am – 5 pm daily.

The Artist Awards Banquet is scheduled for Sept. 10. At the banquet, Hermke Timm will be presented with the 2016 DCAL Master Artist Award. Social hour begins at 5 pm, followed by a buffet dinner by Alexander’s at 6:30 pm in Birch Creek’s Juniper Hall and awards at 7:30 pm.

Each year, DCAL selects a Master Artist who has completed a body of work that represents a high level of achievement in his/her field and contributed significantly to the arts in Door County through community involvement, teaching and promoting the arts. Timm began his career in Switzerland and Norway as an engraver before moving to the U.S. in 1964 and eventually a home and studio on Lake Michigan in Door County. Timm founded Mint Masters, an engraving company that has created medals and medallions of the Pope, Vince Lombardi, Bart Starr and Brett Favre. Appreciating color and design, Timm expanded his creativity to watercolors and egg tempura landscapes and portraits and most recently his “kunterbunt” series of colorful, whimsical graphics. Tickets for the banquet are $45. For tickets, contact Mitch Heinrichs at [email protected] or buy at the door.

The public is also invited to view the art of other recognized Door County artists at The Gallery of DCAL at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. Heinrichs is the September guest artist and Gretchen Misselt is the artist of the week beginning Sept. 10. Misselt’s pastels “portray a bit of the magic” she found in her childhood camping and exploring the woods on Washington Island, where she lives with her husband.

The Gallery of DCAL is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. For more information visit doorcountyartleague.org.
