Ice Carvers Needed for Fire & Ice 2018

Challenge yourself and express your creativity in an uncommon medium – ice. The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center is seeking beginner, intermediate and advanced ice carvers for the 2018 Fire and Ice Festival, Feb. 17.

Ice carvers compete for cash prizes and begin carving at 9 am in various locations throughout Sturgeon Bay. A panel of volunteers will judge all ice carvings beginning at 2 pm. The award ceremony begins at 3 pm in the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center (36 S. Third Ave.). Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded by carving experience level.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to carve. Participation is free and carving experience is not necessary for beginner level. All carving levels may use power tools; beginners may use basic power tools, such as hair dryers, heat guns or drills. (Anyone under 18 years must have parental supervision.) Hand carving tools are available for use from the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center for a $10 refundable deposit.

To participate, fill out the ice carving application online at SturgeonBay.net on the Fire and Ice page (located under “Special Events”).

Ice and snow block sponsors are still needed to make the carvings a reality. Each block costs $100. Please consider sponsoring or making a donation.

To receive an application by mail or sponsor an ice or snow block, call 920.743.6246 or [email protected].
