Ice Cream Factory Gets Plan Commission OK

Owner Todd Frisoni’s plans to build a new Door County Ice Cream Factory restaurant and hotel in downtown Sister Bay were approved by the village’s Plan Commission Sept. 9.

Three residents expressed concerns about the project, largely related to traffic exiting on Spring Road. The building will be located on Highway 42 between the Cedar Shops and the Betty Wiltse building, but parking will be accessed via Spring Road behind the store.

The commission stipulated that Frisoni maintain a 20-foot buffer of natural vegetation on Spring Road and install a No Parking sign there. Al Johnson’s restaurant parking lot also has an exit on Spring Road.

Frisoni plans to move his restaurant, including the ice cream-making operation, from his current location on Highway 42 and Hill Road in Liberty Grove, to the new location. A second story hotel is also in his plans for the development, with hotel expansion possible in later phases. He’ll seek final approval from the Sister Bay Village Board Oct. 12.
