Isadoora Theatre Presents “As Bees in Honey Drown”

Isadoora Theatre Company will once again participate in Door County Reads 2013. Now in their fifth year of presenting play readings for the popular Door County Library event, Isadoora will offer a staged reading of Douglas Carter Beane’s tale of false identity and fraud, As Bees in Honey Drown, on Jan. 29 at 7 pm at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay.

A satire of materialistic and image-driven society, As Bees in Honey Drown follows debut author Evan Wyler as he captures the attention of Alexa Vere de Vere, a woman of mystery who’s made the world of celebrity her home. She asks Evan to write her life story, and insists if he joins her day-to-day escapades, he’ll learn all he needs to know. To Evan, it’s an introduction into a life of glamour. But once he’s fooled into believing he loves Alexa, she vanishes, leaving him to foot the bill for all the expensive dinners and Armani suits they’ve gone through. Can Evan solve the mystery of her disappearance, and corner the elusive mountebank to enjoy a reckoning of his own?

The staged reading will take place one night only in the Third Avenue Playhouse’s Studio Theatre. Directed by Ross Dippel and sponsored by the Friends of the Door County Library, the performance is free and open to the public. (Please note that some language and situations may not be appropriate for children.)

The performance will be followed by a traditional Isadoora “Talk Back” audience discussion.
