Jacksonport Craft Cottage Offers Lighthouse Ceramics

The Jacksonport Craft Cottage currently features the work of Ginger and Richard Michel. The Michels carve their own green ware pieces to create a line of Door County Lighthouse ceramics.

The Michels started their business in 1998 because of their love for Door County lighthouses. Their son Eric takes photos of Door County lighthouses so they can use the images as references while working in clay.

The Michels carve the ceramic pieces while they are still in green ware form, and this gives the scene a 3D effect. This effect is then enhanced by an antiquing application. They carve over 70 different pieces with a variety of lighthouse scenes from the Door County area. Pieces include teapots, lamps, birdfeeders, and vases.

All of the Michels’ ceramic pieces are lead free, dishwasher safe, and can be microwaved, baked or frozen.

The Jacksonport Craft Cottage, located on Highway 57, is open 9 am – 5 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday or by appointment. To schedule an appointment, call 920.823.2288.
