Karate Group Earns Brown, Black Belts

Belt testing for the YMCA’s Goju Ryu karate class took place Aug. 27. Wolfgang Virgin, age 11, advanced to Black Belt, and those who advanced to Brown Belt were Dan, Roger and Kathy Barnard; Tracy Steiner; Mary Cram; and Eli Chlubna. Their Kyoshi (instructor) is Shaun Koulias.

Because of the pandemic, the upper belts have spent the last couple of months training outside at their Kyoshi’s property. Classes will resume outside at the Y on Sept. 8, when the group is looking forward to being together again.
