Knitting for Peace

Inspired by a book written by Betty Christiansen titled Knitting for Peace, Judy Roy, a Baileys Harbor resident who is seldom seen without her knitting, said to herself, “I can do that!” So Judy volunteered to teach a Clearing Winter Program class, knitting all wool sweaters for children in Russia and other eastern European orphanages. She and the students in her class have knit over 20 sweaters, all of which will be sent to Children in Common, an adoption agency that will distribute the sweaters to needy orphaned children. Judy is thrilled to hear that several of the students in her class have spread the word to other knitting groups in the community, and now many other Door County knitters are joining in her international goodwill project.
